Green Men, also known as 'foliate heads' or 'leaf masks' are familiar images found in the architecture of medieval churches in Britain and Europe. Originally thought to represent Pagan imagery they are now known to not have existed in Britain pre Christianity. However, Green Men are now part of British folklore and symbolise spring overcoming winter and fertility. They demonstrate how imagery can change its meaning over time.
Inspired by the interpretation of Green Men in British folklore this Green Man is made of stoneware and measures approx. 260mm x 240mm and weighs 964g. He is designed to be hung in the garden and in the spirit of new life and growth this Green Man can be interpreted as you wish.
He is part of a yearly small batch limited edition and is no. 1 for 2023
