Ceramic Pot, ‘Pot Sherds’

This design of this small lopsided pot draws on my experience of piecing together pottery sherds in an archaeological store and holding them together with masking tape in an attempt to reconstruct a pot. The blue and white colour pallet is inspired by the pottery sherds that I have collected from the River Thames foreshore (called ‘mudlarking’), some dating back to the Medieval period.

It is made from an earthenware white clay, decorated with blue engobe (a cross between slip and glaze). The interior is finished in a matt white glaze and the exterior in a final clear gloss.

This small pot works well as a decorative colourful piece or perhaps a small vase.
